The Prime of Miss Joanne Rowling

There was a young lady from Edinburgh

Who knew what it was like to be poor;

So she supported Labour at every election,

to point Britain in the right direction,

Which really annoyed the unelectable Cyber Boors.

JK Rowling has expressed her frustration with the state of the Labour Party because she does not think it is “BLOODY FUNNY” anymore. JK Rowling got into a heated exchange with a Jeremy Corbyn supporter in the wake of Labour party MPs voting overwhelmingly for a motion of “no confidence” against their leader. The Harry Potter writer joined the scores of celebrities that have weighed in on the current state of UK politics in the wake of the Brexit vote.

The drama kicked off on Twitter after a fan joked that Corbyn was “widely seen by [the user’s] generation as a political Dumbledore”. Albus Dumbledore was the Hogwarts headmaster in Rowling’s wizardry franchise and she didn’t appreciate the comparison.

“I forgot Dumbledore trashed Hogwarts, refused to resign and ran off to the forest to make speeches to angry trolls,” she retorted.

But a Twitter user named Almost Dr Dan shot back: “Don’t call us angry trolls. Many of us are young people, disenchanted with the current system and given hope by him.” Not one to mince her words, the fierce social media activist fired back: “Just as a matter of interest, have you ever gone without food to feed your child, Dan?”

jkfrankfieldAfter he accused her of being “condescending” she clarified that she doesn’t actually “think all Corbynites are angry trolls” and was simply trying to establish “how desperate your need is for a functional Labour party that can be voted into power and DO things. I know what grinding poverty feels like and the memory never, ever leaves you. How’s Labour helping those people right now?”

The Labour party has imploded in the days since the EU referendum with dozens of Labour MPs resigning from the shadow cabinet on 26 June. Many claim that Corbyn failed to effectively lead the Labour party after he kept a low profile during EU referendum. Rowling, who is a long-time Labour supporter, has made her stance clear by retweeted a number of tweets urging Corbyn to step down. However, he has refused to resign.

The Skibbereen Eagle

In 1898, to widespread bemusement, a small Provincial Newspaper in an equally small town in the South West corner of Ireland sonorously warned the Czar of Russia that it knew what he was up to and he should be careful how he proceeded for “The Skibbereen Eagle” was wise to his game and in future would be keeping its eye on him! It is doubtful that Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias, even noticed the Eagle’s admonitions but as history soon proved he should have paid closer attention to the Eagle’s insightful opinions!

Today, powered by its readers and contributors, from its cyber eyries in Ireland and the centres of the Irish Diaspora The Eagle casts its Cold Eye on Life and Death and much in between.
